Grey Gypsies of Australia
Western Australia - 2010
The South Coast Highway took us quickly down and around the coast to Denmark, checking out West Cape Howe NP on the way. Beach camping didn't appeal that day. It was hot and the low beach scrub didn't seem to offer enough shade; as well the cluster of sun bakers on the rocks below looked fried. But the views at Cape Howe were great. We rattled through Denmark taking the Mt Barker road north to that town then continued, unsure of where to camp. Porongurup NP doesn't allow camping and Mt Stirling seemed too far after a long day so we opted for the caravan park at the entrance to the national park. What a good choice! At Porongurup caravan park our lovely hosts helped us settle into a shady spot, gave us information about the district and helped us enjoy our stay with their fantastic camp kitchen and lounge. Oh that all Caravan Parks were as good as this! Many hugs to them both. We checked the Porongurup Range NP and its flowers as well as the great drive through the Stirling Ranges and the local wildflower conservation area at Twin Creeks.
