After the spa we set out for Charleville and that afternoon visited the “Bilby Experience” at the repurposed railway station. An informative film about the breeding program and a walk through a nocturnal-lit area to see the rabbit sized marsupials with their huge ears and pointy noses convinced us of the value of creating safe bush areas for these and other small marsupials free of foxes and cats. In the evening we went out to the marvellous observatory, the Cosmos Centre, on the outskirt of Charleville on a perfect starry night to see old and new galaxies through their telescopes as well as binary stars and the rings of Saturn. They even managed to have a great meteor flame down through the sky at the start of the evening. Well we were now ready to travel home and so we plotted a course to take us through Bourke then West Wyalong with its comfy central caravan park and good meals at the RSL Club. After a quick stop over at the National Glass Museum in WaggaWagga with its tremendous collection contemporary Australian art glass we pointed the Prado towards Benalla and arrived home around 6pm our winter trip over for another year.
